CROSS COUNTRY HIGH MILEAGE RACE PLANNED FOR AUGUST 2010. (COMPLETED)

After the finals of the Automotive X Prize, taking place in Michigan late August 2010, a group of ten amateur built high mileage cars and trikes will head for California. The race/regatta/rally is planned as an informal event with no cash prize and is open to all. The idea is to have some public interface at each stop on the way, so we'll be competing for daily honors as well as for overall. The daily runs will be around 350 miles because some cars might not be that comfortable. We'd like to maximize our public exposure / educational outreach, and average speeds may be in the high forties/low fifties.
I've found this to be a sweet spot with my homebuilt Dirigo RT - dirigocar.com
So we're looking at seven to eight hour days, seven days on the road. Food and sleeping accommodations for the group at the end of every day is part of the plan. Maybe we can arrange this in exchange for putting on a good show, or maybe there needs to be a sponsor. Mere details at this point. Contact Bill at hilltop@midcoast.com for more details.
As a side note, I've heard that the US DOT has funding to support manufacturers of enclosed trikes getting 75mpg or better!
